In legal studies, the importance of precise definitions is often emphasised. Any word can have different meanings, especially in statutes. However, in my studies in taxation I came across accounting, which completely changed my approach to these concepts. Today I will try to introduce you to the basics of accounting and explain why it is different from accounting.

Why is it important?
Accounting is a broad concept that includes not only bookkeeping, but also cost accounting and financial reporting. Each of these areas plays a key role in financial and business management. Understanding these differences is essential to making responsible business decisions.
Bookkeeping is all about recording business events and maintaining accounts.
Cost accounting provides key information that helps entrepreneurs understand what costs are associated with their business and make strategic decisions based on this.
Financial reporting, on the other hand, is an obligation that concerns many entities that are legally obliged to present financial results. The integrity of these reports determines their credibility with investors, banks or regulators.
What topics will I cover in the blog?
In the coming posts, I will cover the most important issues in accounting, starting with an explanation of basic concepts such as depreciation and amortisation or the balance sheet, followed by a discussion of economic events and their recording in the books (e.g. leasing), and ending with an analysis of the reporting obligations of entrepreneurs. I will try to present these issues in a simple and accessible way, especially for those who, like me at the beginning, find it difficult to find their way around the world of accounting.
Summary
Accounting is a much broader subject than bookkeeping. It also encompasses cost accounting and financial reporting, which are crucial for any business. Understanding these concepts will help you manage your business better and make informed financial decisions. In future posts, I will ease you into the world of accounting.
